Observability Is Part of Delivery Definition

A feature is harder to operate safely when the team cannot tell whether it is healthy after release.

Current. Current engineering note derived from recent hserver and LOUP delivery, operations, incident, and recovery work.

Shipping a behavior without a way to observe it pushes uncertainty into the next incident. Metrics, logs and probes should be designed with the change rather than added after the first outage.

hserver deployments increasingly verify target health, telemetry freshness, backup posture and alert delivery as part of acceptance. LOUP firmware work uses call stability, RTP behavior, jitter depth and AEC evidence to decide whether a build is actually better.

This is why observability belongs in the definition of done. The team should know which signals prove success, which indicate degradation and how stale data will be detected.

A release that cannot explain its own health is operationally incomplete even when every functional test passes, because production teams still need evidence after the test suite ends.

Repository/project evidence for this note: b65d5d4. The point is the operating model behind the change, not the commit number itself.
