Partial Refresh Is a Product Resource
A UI transition has a display cost, so redraw scope becomes part of firmware design.
I reached Partial Refresh Is a Product Resource through a repeatable lab problem rather than a design slogan. LOUP intends to use partial refresh for selection, volume and status changes rather than flashing the full panel on every event.
That requires tracking which regions changed and how often they can be refreshed before ghosting or cleanup becomes necessary. A contact highlight can move without repainting the whole screen, while a major page transition may justify a full update.
The useful debugging step was separating signal path, state and timing instead of modifying all three and then guessing which change mattered. Evidence marker: partial-refresh.
On e-paper, rendering strategy is also power, latency and visual-quality strategy. That distinction also makes regressions cheaper to isolate when hardware, firmware and infrastructure are changing in parallel.
