Incident Response Starts Before the Incident

Backups, dashboards, ownership and rollback paths are incident-response work performed while the system is calm.

Current. Current engineering note derived from recent hserver and LOUP delivery, operations, incident, and recovery work.

The worst time to discover who owns a service, where its backup lives or which dashboard matters is after production has already failed.

Recent hserver work invests heavily in source ownership, DR verification, health probes and recovery runbooks because those artifacts reduce uncertainty during failure. LOUP preserves release binaries and known-good source for the same reason.

Preparedness is a cultural habit: teams rehearse recovery assumptions during normal work and treat missing evidence as a current defect rather than a future inconvenience.

Good incident response therefore begins in architecture and delivery, long before anyone opens an incident channel or starts searching for a missing recovery procedure.
