A Green Dashboard Can Still Be Wrong
Reliability culture includes skepticism about stale, incomplete or semantically weak telemetry.
A dashboard is only as trustworthy as the freshness and semantics of the data behind it. Green color is not proof that the monitored reality is current.
hserver work added runner freshness, storage observation timestamps and explicit UNKNOWN states because protected or stale evidence had previously looked healthier than it deserved. The same principle applies to fleet state and deployment records.
Operational culture should teach engineers to ask when a signal was observed, who produced it and what condition it actually proves.
The mature monitoring question is not “is the panel green?” but “what evidence would make this panel lie?”, because trust depends on freshness and semantics.
