A Service-Replaceable Battery Changes Mechanical and Firmware Assumptions
A screwed back plate makes battery replacement possible but also affects sealing, state retention and service procedure.
The acceptance condition for A Service-Replaceable Battery Changes Mechanical and Firmware Assumptions only became clear after the system was split into boundaries. LOUP targets a battery that can be replaced through a screwed rear plate instead of treating the enclosure as permanently sealed.
That decision touches gasket design, IPX4 goals, connector access and what happens when power is physically removed. Firmware has to tolerate a hard battery disconnect without assuming every shutdown passes through a graceful software path.
The design became clearer when configuration, runtime state and recovery behaviour were specified separately instead of being implied by implementation details. Evidence marker: service-replaceable-battery.
Serviceability is cross-disciplinary. Mechanical access, environmental sealing and software recovery all have to agree on what a battery replacement means. Once that contract is written down, firmware and server changes can be reviewed against the same expectation instead of relying on memory.
